My attitude towards traffic jams is like Ronald Reagan's towards trees, "You've seen one, you've seen them all". It could be worse, I could have James Watt's attitude "Cut them all down, Jesus is coming soon", which isn't far from "Kill them all and let God sort them out". This Schwarzeneggeresque thought is a loose translation of a reply given by a member of the inquisition (In a post Vatican II world, why does the Holy Office of the Inquisition still exist? Why do we have diplomatic relations with a "state" that has such an office? Isn't that some sort of human rights violation? Should we withhold MFN status from Vatican City until they disband the Office? Write letters to Amnesty International? Pray? "Of course the Pope is Catholic, but is he really catholic?"). The inquisitor was asked how he could tell the heretics from the faithful. He replied "Kill them all, God will know his own". Indeed, a novel solution for traffic jams.
